GUTTER CLEANING
Clean Gutters Are Not a Luxury. They Are Your Home’s First Line of Defense.
Most homeowners do not think about their gutters until something goes wrong.
By then, the damage is often already done. Clogged gutters prevent water from draining away from your home, and that water has to go somewhere. It backs up under your shingles, pools against your foundation, saturates your soil, and finds its way into your basement, your walls, and your landscaping. The repairs that follow are rarely cheap.
HydroPower’s professional gutter cleaning service clears debris from your gutters, flushes your downspouts, and confirms that your entire drainage system is functioning the way it was designed to. It is fast, affordable, and one of the highest-value maintenance services a homeowner can invest in.
What Clogged Gutters Can Cost You
Gutter cleaning is one of the most straightforward home maintenance services available, and one of the most consistently overlooked. Here is what happens when gutters are left uncleaned:
- Roof damage: Water that cannot flow freely through your gutters backs up under your shingles and fascia boards, causing rot, leaks, and premature shingle deterioration.
- Foundation damage: Gutters exist to carry water away from your foundation. When they are blocked, water pours over the sides and pools at the base of your home, where it puts pressure on your foundation and finds its way into your basement.
- Landscape erosion: Overflowing gutters dump concentrated volumes of water directly onto your landscaping, eroding soil, drowning plants, and washing away mulch and ground cover.
- Pest infestations: Debris-filled gutters create ideal nesting environments for mosquitoes, birds, squirrels, and other pests that can migrate from your gutters into your roofline and attic.
- Ice dams in winter: Clogged gutters prevent proper drainage as temperatures drop, leading to ice buildup that forces water back under your shingles and can cause significant interior water damage.
Most of these outcomes are entirely preventable with a routine gutter cleaning in the fall and a second inspection in the spring after debris from winter storms has settled.
What Our Gutter Cleaning Service Includes
HydroPower’s gutter cleaning service is thorough, not just a quick scoop and rinse.
Step 1
Debris Removal
We clear all leaves, twigs, seed pods, shingle granules, and compacted debris from your gutters by hand and with professional tools. We work section by section to ensure nothing is missed.
Step 2
Downspout Flushing
We flush each downspout with water to confirm it is clear and draining freely. If a downspout is blocked, we work to clear the obstruction completely before moving on.
Step 3
Flow Test
Once the downspouts are clear, we run water through the entire system to verify that it is draining properly from end to end and that there are no slow spots or partial blockages remaining.
Step 4
Debris Cleanup
We clean up all debris removed from your gutters and leave your property tidy. We do not scoop your gutters and leave a pile of leaves in your landscaping.
Step 5
Inspection and Walkthrough
We check for any visible gutter damage, sagging sections, or loose hangers and note anything that warrants your attention. We walk you through what we found and what we did before we leave.
How Often Should Gutters Be Cleaned?
For most homes in the greater Philadelphia region, twice a year is the right answer. A fall cleaning after the leaves have dropped, typically in November, clears the season’s debris before winter sets in. A spring cleaning in March or April addresses anything that has accumulated over the winter months and prepares your system for heavy spring rains.
Homes with heavy tree coverage, pine trees that shed year-round, or homes that have experienced ice dam issues may benefit from additional cleanings. If you are not sure what schedule makes sense for your property, we will give you an honest recommendation based on what we see on-site.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT GUTTER CLEANING
How often should I have my gutters cleaned?
Most homeowners in the Philadelphia region benefit from two cleanings per year, once in the fall after leaves have dropped and once in the spring. Homes with heavy tree coverage or pine trees may need additional attention. We will give you a recommendation based on your specific property.
Do I need to be home for the gutter cleaning?
No. Since all work is done on the exterior of your home, you do not need to be present. We do ask that any gates providing access to the property are unlocked. If you would like to be home for a walkthrough at the end, just let us know when scheduling.
What do you do with the debris you remove?
We bag or collect all debris removed from your gutters and leave your property clean. We do not dump gutter debris into your landscaping or leave it on your roof.
Can you clean gutters with gutter guards installed?
Yes, in most cases. The type and condition of your gutter guard system will determine the best approach. Let us know when you request your quote and we will factor that into our assessment.
What if my downspouts are blocked?
Blocked downspouts are one of the most common issues we encounter. We work to clear them as part of our standard service. In rare cases where a blockage is deep in the underground drainage system, we will let you know what we found and recommend next steps.
